Atlanta connecting with SkyTrain
Atlanta is the only U.S. city with a convention center that’s directly connected to a major airport. The ATL SkyTrain now connects the Georgia International Convention Center (GICC) to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and its new 67.5-acre car rental facility. A five-minute ride each way, the SkyTrain gives convention travelers streamlined access to fly-in meetings at the 16,000-sq.-ft. center. “This marks an exciting day for the GICC,” says GICC Executive Director Hugh Austin about the first stop on the SkyTrain, which opened December 8, 2009. “This convention center was strategically built in this location to capitalize on Hartsfield-Jackson’s new rental car center and specifically the accompanying people mover, the ATL SkyTrain. This new direct connection to Hartsfield-Jackson truly makes the GICC one of the most internationally accessible convention centers in the country.”
