Master plan for New Orleans

New Orleans has launched a master plan for the city’s tourism industry aimed a creating added value for meeting planners; improving city infrastructure; increasing jobs and enhancing visitor experience. The city hopes to attract 13.7 million annual visitors by its 300th anniversary in 2018. If New Orleans meets the master plan goals, the cumulative benefits through 2018 will be dramatic: $11 billion in direct spending, 33,000 additional jobs with an average salary of $33,000 a year and $700 million in tax revenue.

“The strategic master plan is all about making New Orleans the most attractive destination in the nation for leisure trips, meetings, conventions, festivals and special events,” says Stephen Perry, president and CEO of the New Orleans CVB. “No city has the culture, appeal or visitor experience of New Orleans, so we must have the most comprehensive master plan and shrewd business model of any destination marketing organization in the country. The strategic master plan presents best practices and will provide an unprecedented return on investment for every New Orleans visitor, customer and tourism-related business.”

The New Orleans Hospitality Industry Task Force commissioned The Boston Consulting Group to complete the study on New Orleans’ tourism condition and develop a master plan to strengthen tourism in New Orleans.
