Michigan DMO tops social media marketing list

Michigan was named the most social destination marketing organization by Gammet Interactive. The company used a 13-point algorithm to determine the most active DMO on sites like Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and others. The evaluation was conducted during a four-day period during the last week of June 2010. Criteria included certified site traffic measurement; presence of social media icons and links on the website home page; state keyword search in Google; Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube and MySpace presence and blog presence.

After Michigan, Virginia and Tennessee tied for second and Oregon and Colorado tied for third. Each of the states was in the top five the last time the survey was conducted in April 2010, but Michigan broke its former tie with Virginia to be the sole No. 1 state.
