MLK Jr. National Historic Site

The life and ministry of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. are on full display minutes from downtown Atlanta. Explore the community that shaped this dynamic civil rights leader, starting with a free tour of King’s birth home in the Sweet Auburn district. “Guests can visit Dr. King’s final resting place at [The King Center] and compare the parallel paths of Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement in the ‘Courage to Lead’ exhibit within the Visitor Center,” says Michelle Harding of the Atlanta CVB. Also visit Ebenezer Baptist Church, the sanctuary where King served as co-pastor with his father until his death in 1968. Today, the congregation meets across the street from the historic church in the Horizon Sanctuary, and welcomes guests to its services. Free Sweet Auburn walking tours include sites that make up the national historic site and other relevant landmarks. thekingcenter.org; nps.gov
