The Marine Corps Museum
Imagine dining as vintage aircraft soar overhead or in a tavern that’s an authentic replica of the one where the first marines were recruited in 1775. Give your attendees that experience at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, located a short distance from Washington, D.C. The massive glass and steel structure (its design reflective of the flag raising at Iwo Jima) chronicles more than two centuries of Corps’ history from the Revolutionary War to current global conflicts. The free 120,000-sq.-ft. museum, which opened in 2006, added 12,000 square feet of additional exhibit space last year with the debut of three new interactive galleries. Four spaces can be booked for dinners and receptions including the cafeteria-style Mess Hall, Tun Tavern (ideal for smaller groups), The Overlook and The Leatherneck Gallery, the latter accommodating 850 for dinner or 1,000 for a standing reception. usmcmuseum.org
