Angela Hammond, CASE, became interested in the hospitality industry as social chair of her sorority at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She interviewed with Hyatt Hotels on campus and joined its Corporate Management Training Program. Her first stop was the Hyatt Regency Columbus, about an hour north of her hometown of Greenfield, Ohio. For the first three months, she spent a week in each department before landing in sales. Hammond worked her way up to sales manager over six years, covering corporate and national association markets along the way. In 2004, the national sales manager position opened up at Experience Columbus, and Hammond saw it as a great opportunity to represent the entire city. “I love Columbus and especially what we are becoming,” she says. “2012 will be our bicentennial, and it also will be the year we host the Rejuvenate conference, so we’re excited about all that’s happening with that.” She and husband Troy travel a lot for work but manage to find a work-home balance and feel very fortunate to have parents in Columbus who pitch in to help with 3-year-old son Evan. —R.
