Change-Making 101: Terry began his career as a speaker in 1995 working for other conferences and venues. “I quickly recognized I would not attend most of the events I spoke for,” he says. He realized there were people like him who agreed: “Mega-conferences were great, but a boutique experience for a specific clientele is an underserved market. I think we will develop an entirely new market for event planners in the coming decade.”

Why He’s Not Your Typical Faith-Based Planner: “I’ve specialized in boutique event planning with events and retreats with typically 50 couples or fewer. We seek to give the couples a truly refreshing conference with opportunities for adventure and relaxation, as well as an occasional romantic date. We limit our teaching sessions to one to two gatherings per day with high-impact sessions and expert speakers.”

How He Got Here: Since 2001, Terry has served as a senior pastor—first at Lancaster Baptist Church in Central Kentucky, and currently at Capshaw Baptist Church in North Alabama. Both churches experienced significant growth under his leadership.

Greatest Career Accomplishment: He received the Westminster John Knox Press award for excellence in preaching and communication from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Inspired By: “Alabama has been a mecca for some of the best event planners in our industry. Organizations like the Scott Dawson Evangelistic Association, Phil Waldrep Ministries and Student Life have set the standard for Christian events for the last decade.”

Secret to His Success: Honing in. “Understanding the unique nature of our market, we seek to serve clientele on the higher end of the socioeconomic scale. They can view events [and retreats] differently.”
