How HGTV’S “Fixer Upper” and Oxygen’s “Rich in Faith” Are Shaping Events

When it comes to transforming dilapidated houses into dream homes, no one does it better than the Gaines duo: Chip (the goofy dad who handles the renovations) and Joanna (the design-minded mom with an enviable work-life balance) of HGTV’s popular “Fixer Upper.” A January episode gave the network its highest rating in six years, with more than 5 million viewers tuning in. The couple, based in Waco, Texas, credits their faith with their success. Joanna has publicized her testimony of trusting God with the direction of their Magnolia Market decor and design business, which eventually evolved into the show. Take a cue from Joanna’s signature design style by incorporating shiplap (a rough-sawed wood paneling often used in barns) into a statement wall onstage or as a photo booth backdrop. The style of Joanna’s design is driving the trend of decor these days. Be on the lookout for the Gaines’ new book, “The Magnolia Story,” when it’s released in October to learn more about their journey and inspiration.
