Praiseworthy Performances: 3 Choirs To Book For Your Next Event

By Natalie Dupuis, January 2, 2015

While stages filled with guitars, drums and keyboards may be all the rage with younger crowds, one way to generate appeal across generations is by booking a top-notch choir to perform at your event. These three touring groups are sure to leave people inspired. Do your research locally too—most major cities have residential choirs that can be booked to perform at events, especially if they are affiliated with a local symphony or orchestra.

1. African Children’s Choir
This group of talented African children ages 7 to 10 from all over the continent perform energetic versions of popular children’s songs, traditional spirituals and a few contemporary melodies, all accompanied with ethnic instrumentation.

2. Committed
An all-male a cappella group hailing from Huntsville, Alabama, they won America’s hearts during the second season of NBC’s “The Sing-Off.” This sextet sings everything from gospel to contemporary worship to R&B and a few pop songs.

3. Harlem Gospel Choir
For contemporary gospel music with a hint of jazz and blues, the New York-based Harlem Gospel Choir (shown) is a safe bet. The lively group tours internationally and has performed for three presidents and two popes.
