The beaches of the Alabama Gulf Coast are as much of a draw for meetings as they are for tourists, especially for groups convening at Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach, where sand and surf are steps from the ballroom.

This 346-room property has 45,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space, including an 8,000-sq.-ft. ballroom, an 8,000-sq.-ft. exhibit hall, two outdoor decks and several breakout rooms that can be configured to accommodate up to 150 attendees, as well as four on-site restaurants.

Taking advantage of its beachside location, Perdido Beach Resort can help arrange teambuilding activities ranging from neon night volleyball to beach olympics, as well as set up interactive sessions like salsa-making competitions. Charitable projects such as Trikes for Tykes challenge participants to assemble a tricycle in the fastest time and then donate the finished products to a local children’s charity.

Planners can work with an in-house audiovisual team to customize meeting spaces with gobos, or promote group activities on a dedicated TV channel.

The resort hosts a number of faith-based groups every year, including the Archdiocesan Catholic Youth Conference and a women’s retreat for the Womanhood Ministry of Antioch Baptist Church North. When not in meetings, these groups have participated in activities such as pizza parties in the hotel’s Grand Point meeting space, which overlooks the pool area.

Insider Tip

Schedule deep-sea fishing charters, pontoon rentals, sailing charters and other water activities through the resort’s concierge service.
