Owensboro, Ky., unveiled a 169,000-sq.-ft. facility in January 2014. Owensboro Convention Center overlooks the Ohio River and is an integral part of the revitalization of downtown Owensboro, which is about 100 miles southwest of Louisville. It has 92,000 square feet of event space, which includes 48,000 square feet of ballroom space and a 44,000-sq.-ft. exhibit hall. The OCC provides a complete roster of in-house meetings services, such as audiovisual equipment, Internet access, decorating services, and food and beverage service. Top local chef Jeremy Mattingly oversees catering menus.
The first-floor exhibit hall has a 30-ft. ceiling and can be divided into three 14,000-sq.-ft. spaces that can each accommodate 70 to 90 booths. The second-floor meeting rooms fit smaller groups of 10 to 60. The two third-floor ballrooms can be divided into 10 rooms, ranging from 1,500 to 3,700 square feet each. A 12,000-sq.-ft. pavilion is scheduled to open in the fall. OCC is positioned within walking distance of local restaurants and shops, and is a few blocks from the International Bluegrass Music Museum. It is also a short walk to the riverfront Smothers Park.
