Hospitality had been one of the few business sectors in which Virgin Group didn’t have a presence, but that all changed in January when Virgin Hotels Chicago opened its doors. The 250-room property is in the Windy City’s Loop business district and a short walk from Millennium Park and L train stations. The property provides free Wi-Fi for all guests and has three small meeting spaces, the largest being the Manor, which can seat up to 108.
Virgin Chicago’s Commons Club was designed with casual face-to-face meetings in mind. The hotel doles out complimentary cocktails during the lounge and restaurant’s nightly social hour, making it the perfect spot to unwind. While the Chicago venue is Virgin’s first hotel, it won’t be the conglomerate’s last. Virgin plans to open 20 hotels in the next 10 years, including a property in Nashville in 2016 (see page 72 for more details)and New York in 2017—not a bad idea for a company whose founder is an advocate of unlimited vacation time for employees.
See the city like a local through Virgin’s Step Outside program. Step Outside helps guests experience a true taste of life in Chicago, directing them to indie coffee shops, under-the-radar ethnic restaurants and more.
